In September 2011, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched the Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) initiative as a global partnership platform that was to promote and support new collaborative approaches for governments, business and civil society to work together in making sustainable energy for all a reality by 2030. Set up as a multi-stakeholder platform, SEforALL aims to contribute towards three interlinked objectives: (i) ensure universal access to modern energy services; (ii) double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency; and (iii) double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. In working towards these goals, SEforALL engages with leaders across the world, empowering them to broker the partnerships and to unlock the finance necessary for a radical energy transformation in their countries, sectors or regions. SEforALL works by marshaling the evidence about what works and what doesn’t; benchmarking the progress made across countries, and pointing to it; amplifying the voices of the energy poor and others who need to be engaged for a global movement to emerge; telling the stories of success to offer motivation where inertia is settling; and connecting leaders with each other and the ideas and innovation they need to move forward.  SEforALL operates out of Vienna and Washington DC, incorporated as an International Organization under Austrian law.

Context of Assignment: The SEforALL Communications team is a lean, agile, fast-paced global team using storytelling to help deliver the organization’s goal of accelerating action that help secure clean, affordable energy for all well – and do it well before 2030. Under the overall guidance of the SEforALL Communications Director, the Social Media Associate’s role will be to develop and execute SEforALL’s social media strategies and campaigns across all relevant social media channels and manage the day-to-day tactical execution of all social media activity – and help us change the narrative on SDG #7.

Title of Supervisor: Communications Director

Content and methodology of supervision: The Social Media Associate will be supervised through individual meetings with the Communications Director, weekly team meetings, and through periodic performance appraisals.


Functional Responsibilities

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a self-starter, detail-oriented, technologically-savvy individual to serve as a Social Media Associate.  Located in the Vienna/Austria headquarters of SEforALL, the Social Media Associate takes accountability for all of SEforALL’s social media platforms – and its impact – as well as for all other digital platforms and tools. S/he will be responsible for developing and implementing the SEforALL social media communications strategy. S/he will lead on content management of the SEforALL online products – in particular of SEforALL’s social media platforms – and be responsible for knowledge building and knowledge sharing amongst others in the team with regard to all such platforms and tools as well as among the SEforALL communications partner community – monitoring and supporting our Partners’ social media platforms.

The Social Media Associate ensures efficient social media content management, and focuses on the following:

  • Builds and executes social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification.
  • Identifies appropriate social media platforms to create and develop SEforALL’s brand presence and produces content on such social networking platforms.
  • Builds and executes social media content and related day-to-day activities, including monitoring of social media pages and accounts (crafting and posting content and commentary), as well as responding directly to customer feedback and communicating to other internal divisions where necessary.
  • Leads the development, provides strategic insight, and conducts training for social media policies and best practices for the organization as well as its partners. 
  • Maintains knowledge on the changing social media landscape and works with the team to create new, creative ways (campaigns, daily outreach, etc.) to promote SEforALL’s message while encouraging engagement from the online community. Builds up database for recording and storing best practices for creating, managing, monitoring, and developing content for social networks.
  • Analyzes, reviews, and reports on effectiveness of Social Media efforts in order to maximize results; utilizes tools (Google Analytics, etc.) to gather and analyze information on various social media campaigns and initiatives.
  • Attends conferences and SEforALL’s events (SEforALL Forum) to generate real-time content on social media platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn etc.
  • Determine metrics for growth, along with strategies for lead generation using social media avenues
  • Creates and maintains content calendars for all of SEforALL’s social media profiles, coordinating with key partners and other stakeholders to drive engagement and growth. In collaboration with the Communications team, creating a digital content calendar as well as identifying gaps, inaccuracies or outdated aspects in existing content
  • Ensuring consistent branding and visual imagery on all of SEforALL’s social media platforms by promoting uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images and layout in line with the SEforALL communications strategy
  • Researching, writing, editing and publishing social media content that is clear, concise, vivid, and effectively conveys key messages to target audiences
  • Suggesting and implementing new elements such as audio-visual elements, text elements in highly creative styles.
  • Monitoring and supporting all partner social media platforms

The Social Media Associate ensures implementation of SEforALL’s communications strategies and procedures, focusing on:

  • Full compliance of communications activities with internal rules, regulations, policies and strategies.
  • Processes that are to be in place across the SEforALL global team to ensure up to date information is made available on all social media platforms and that SEforALL teams are at all times, when necessary, apprised of new or changing content on all such platforms . 
  • Work in collaboration with the Digital Media Associate in ensuring that regular reports are available on website activity and the use of other online tools and services to support management decisions on investing more or less time and resources in specific outreach channels for specific influence and impact. Reports will have to be designed in line with the SEforALL results framework and with recent knowledge and insight on measuring and managing online outreach campaigns for influence.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education and Work Experience:

  • Secondary education required. First university degree in Liberal Arts with experience in Communication desirable
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in, social media, and digital marketing with a responsibility for creating, curating and developing high impact campaigns across a variety of social and digital channels with a demonstrated and documented immersion across social media platforms. If no first university degree, then a minimum of 5-6 years’ of digital experience along with specific experience in social media for at least 2-3 years
  • Outstanding copywriting and editing skills in English. Copywriting and editing skills in French or Spanish a plus.
  • Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (LinkedIn, Twitter etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.
  • Adobe Suite skills advantageous but not required.
  • Adequate knowledge of web design, web development, CRO and SEO
  • Fluency in written and oral English required

Languages:

Complete fluency in English with strong written and verbal communication skills is required. Knowledge and ability to work in another UN language desirable. (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).
